Actress Olivia Munn, 43, took drastic measures in her battle against breast cancer by undergoing a total hysterectomy in April, a process in which her uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries were removed.

The revelation came during an interview with Vogue published last Sunday.

Faced with a luminal B breast cancer diagnosis, which is fueled by estrogen, Munn opted for the surgery after medical advice to halt hormone production in her body to prevent disease recurrence. “It was a huge decision, but the best one for me, as I needed to be present for my family,” explained Munn during the interview.

Before the hysterectomy, the mother of Malcolm, her son with comedian John Mulaney, born in November 2021, attempted to suppress estrogen using the medication Lupron. However, the side effects were debilitating, leaving her bedridden and deeply exhausted.

In addition to the hysterectomy, Munn’s cancer journey has included a complete double mastectomy, lymph node dissection, reconstructive surgery, and a nipple preservation procedure. She also froze her eggs for the third time, a preventive measure she had previously taken at ages 33 and 39.

In March, Munn revealed her cancer diagnosis after a magnetic resonance imaging scan detected luminal B type cancer in both breasts, described as “aggressive and fast-growing.” The actress tested negative for the BRCA gene, and her mammogram was clear at the time of diagnosis.

Despite the challenges, Munn expressed gratitude for her family, friends, and especially for Mulaney, with whom she has been for three years. The couple made their red carpet debut in January, showing a strong bond in the face of adversity.
